A case has been filed against five individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former chief justice Khairul Haque, in connection with the murder of Feroz Talukder alias Palash, an office assistant at Rangpur Chemical Limited.

The case was filed by Reshma Sultana, the wife of the deceased, in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan on Wednesday.

The court accepted the plaintiff's statement and instructed the Mirpur Model police station to register the complaint as a first information report (FIR).

Other defendants named in the case include former road transport and bridge minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Kamal, and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.

Additionally, several Awami League leaders and senior RAB and police officials have been listed as unknown accused in the case.

According to the complaint, former chief justice Khairul Haque is accused of unilaterally abolishing the caretaker government system, allegedly ignoring the opinions of other legal experts.

The complaint further alleges that this action enabled Sheikh Hasina and her associates to establish an undeclared dictatorship, leading to arbitrary use of state power.

It claims that Sheikh Hasina and the other accused have repeatedly come to power through disputed elections in 2014 and 2018, allegedly facilitated by the Election Commission and fraudulent voting practices.

The complaint also accuses the defendants of perpetrating murders, disappearances, crossfires, and suppressing freedom of speech through state mechanisms.

The case details the circumstances leading to Feroz Talukder's death during the nationwide student movement demanding quota reforms.

The complaint alleges that on July 19, around 6pm, Feroz was shot by RAB personnel from a helicopter while crossing the Mirpur-10 roundabout. He was later declared dead at the hospital.

Morad Hasan Salim, the plaintiff's lawyer, provided this information to the media.
