A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) on Wednesday seeking directives to identify those responsible for the deaths of four children in their homes during the recent quota reform movement and to establish a judicial probe commission for this purpose.
The deceased children are Riya Gope from Narayanganj, Abul Ahad, Saffat, and Naima Sultana from Dhaka’s Rayerbagh, Mirpur, and Uttara, respectively.
The petition was submitted to Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam, who has scheduled a hearing for Thursday, according to Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker.
Advocate Taimur, who filed the petition, requested Tk1 crore in compensation for the families of each deceased child.
The writ names the Secretaries of the Ministries of Home and Law, the inspector general of Police, and two national newspapers as respondents.
Lawyer Taimur explained that the newspapers were included as respondents because the petition is based on reports published by them regarding the children’s deaths.
