Regarding the 302-page probe report submitted over the death of public servant Sultana Jasmine in the custody of Rapid Action Battalion in Naogaon, the High Court said that there are sensitive issues in the report and the details will be checked.
This report was submitted to the Registrar General office of the Supreme Court on August 14.
A bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam came up with the remarks on Sunday during a hearing.
Assistant Attorney General Abul Kalam Khan Daud represented the state. Lawyer Manoj Kumar Bhowmik stood for the writ.
Meanwhile, the writ petitioner sought a copy of the report submitted to the court on Sunday.
Then the High Court said there are sensitive issues in this report.
“We haven't opened it yet. We will check the details. That will take time… Copies of this report cannot be provided at this time. A copy of the report will be given later.”
The court also fixed October 16 for the next order.
Earlier on March 22, RAB arrested land office employee Sultana Jasmine in Naogaon after Joint Secretary Enamul Haque, working in the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner's office, filed a complaint.
After four hours of the arrest, RAB took Jasmine to Naogaon Sadar Hospital when she fell ill.
From there she was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. She died there on March 24.
Jasmine's family alleged that Jasmine died due to torture in RAB custody. However, denying the allegations, RAB said that the 45-year-old had fallen ill after the arrest.
On June 13, the court gave a two-month time limit to the high-powered probe committee to investigate the death and submit a report.
On April 5, the High Court directed the authorities concerned to form a high-powered body to investigate the death of Sultana Jasmine in the custody of RAB.
The court also ordered inclusion of a judicial official of the rank of district judge and a chief judicial magistrate in the committee.
Following widespread criticism over the death of Jasmine, lawyer Manoj drew attention of the HC after submitting newspaper reports regarding the issue on March 27.
On March 28, a petition was submitted in connection with the custodial death following an HC directive.
