A Chittagong court on Monday granted bail to two Sub-Inspectors (SIs) of city's Patenga thana in connection with a case filed by Judge Ferdous Ara of Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal.

Anwar Hossain and Subir Pal surrendered before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Deb and sought bail through their lawyers. The court granted their bail after hearing from both sides.

Earlier, the judge filed a case on September 13, against the two SIs on charges of filing a false case and giving false reports and evidences.

The court earlier issued arrest warrants against them.

According to the court sources, Patenga thana police arrested a minor boy Nazmul Hasan Jewel from Butterfly Park, beside the Shah Amanat International Airport on April 21, 2019, for his alleged involvement in smuggling of two gold bars by evading customs duty.

SI Anwar Hossain filed a smuggling case against the child on April 22.

SI Subir Pal of Patenga thana police, as Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, submitted a charge-sheet before the court on October 3, 2019 accusing the minor.  The court on September 4 acquitted Nazmul from the charge as it found the minor was innocent.

Court sources said the investigating officer submitted a false report to save the plaintiff police officer without collecting necessary information from the concerned revenue office. Even after knowing the truth, he also gave false testimony in the court by swearing in favor of the false report, the sources added.

Despite the fact that the minor is completely innocent in this case and was detained in jail for one month and six days from April 22, 2019 later, he got bail on May 28 of the same year.

Bench Officer of the court Syed Noor-e-Khoda, said the judge filed a case against SI Anwar Hossain and Subir Paul for giving false police reports and witnesses and the court accepted the case and issued arrest warrants against them.
