The Detective Branch (DB) of police has submitted charge sheet against MA Awal, former MP of Lakshmipur 1 constituency, and 14 others in a case filed over the murder of a trader in Dhaka last year.
DB Inspector Syed Iftekhar Hossain, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet on Sunday to the Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, court sources said on Tuesday.
The victim was Shahinuddin, a trader who was killed in broad daylight in the capital’s Pallabi area.
The other accused are Sumon Bepary, 33, Md Taher, 47, Md Golam Kibria Khan, 49, Md Murad Hossain, 23, Titu Sheikh alias Titu, 31, Md Rocky Talukder, 25, Nur Mohammad Hasan, 19, Md Sharif, 20, Iqbal Hossain, 23, Md Tariqul Islam Imon, 23, Tuhin Miah, 19, Md Harunur Rashid, 19, and Shafiqul Islam, 25, Ibrahim Sumon, 21.
Of them, Shafiqul and Ibrahim are absconding while the rest are now in jail.
In the charge sheet, Awal is mentioned as the mastermind behind the killing.
A total of 30 names were mentioned in the charge sheet including prosecution witnesses as complainants in the case. It will be placed before the court on Thursday for the next course of action.
MA Awal was placed on a two-day remand on February 9 in an extortion case.
He was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on May 20 last year in the case filed with Pallabi police station on May 17 against several people for killing Shahinuddin.
On May 16, Shahinuddin was called up on his mobile phone and asked to go to Mirpur Section 12 on the pretext of resolving a land dispute.
When the victim reached the area around 4pm that day, assailants attacked him before hacking him to death with sharp weapons in front of his seven-year-old son.
