A Meherpur court has imposed an exemplary sentence for a juvenile in a drug case, including reading books and one year probation.
District and Sessions Judge Touhidul Islam of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal handed down the verdict on Monday.
The judge said the offender has to abide by 13 conditions, including reading the books “Oshomapto Attojiboni” and “Amar Dekha Noya Chin” by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The other conditions include refraining from smoking and using drugs, not carrying, storing, supplying, or selling drugs, and focusing on education.
"If he follows these conditions then he will be free,” the court said in its verdict.
Prosecutor AKM Asaduzzaman said that Sajjadul Alam of Meherpur Social Services Department will act as the probation officer for the youth.
On June 22, 2019, a juvenile was arrested in possession of 300 grams of drugs. A case was filed against him at Gangni police station.
Due to the fact that the accused is under 18, he was tried in the tribunal.
