Update : 25 Nov 2020, 02:31 PM

The High Court has rejected a writ petition that challenged legality of the virtual court proceedings.

The bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and Justice Md Badruzzaman rejected the writ on Wednesday.

Advocate AKM Asiful Huda stood for the writ while Attorney General AM Amin Uddin accompanied by Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah represented the state.

Supreme Court lawyer AKM Asiful Huda filed the writ petition in October this year, challenging the legality of virtual court proceedings according to existing laws.

It was decided on May 10 that virtual proceedings will be held in all the lower courts of the country to curb the spread of coronavirus.

In July, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court started virtual proceedings following the nationwide lockdown due to Covid-19.
