A Dhaka court has transferred the matter to the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka for quick disposal of the case filed over the killing of Buet student Abrar Fahad.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judges Court judge KM Emrul Kayesh passed the order on Wednesday in presence of 22 of the 25 accused in the case.
The court also fixed April 6 for framing of charge hearing against the 25 accused.
On March 12, Ministry of Home Affairs issued a gazette notification for transferring the case for formal trial of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Abrar Fahad murder case to the Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judges’ Court Additional Public Prosecutor Tapash Kumar Paul confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
The additional PP mentioned that he received the gazette notification.
According to case details, on October 7, Abrar, a second-year Buet student of electrical and electronics engineering department, was mercilessly tortured to death by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men at the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in Dhaka.
On November 13 last year, the Detective Branch of police submitted a charge sheet against 25 Buet students in the case. Of the accused, a total of 22 accused in the case are now in custody.
