A Dhaka court has placed three people on five-day remand each in a case filed over the murder of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Abrar Fahad.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain passed the order on Wednesday, when Detective Branch (DB) of Police Inspector Muhammad Wahidud Zaman, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court with a plea of 10-day remand for each.
The accused are Md Moniruzzaman Monir, Shamsul Arefin Rafat, and Md Akash.
Monir is from Buet's Water Resources Engineering Department, Rafat from Mechanical Engineering Department, while Akash is from the Chemical Engineering Department.
The court has received the first information report (FIR) of the murder case and ordered police to submit a report on the progress of the case on November 13.
Abrar, a second year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of the university, was beaten to death inside Buet's Sher-E-Bangla residential hall on Monday.
Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 people with Chawkbazar police station on Monday evening.
Later, Bangladesh Chhatra League expelled 11 of its Buet unit members permanently from the organization for their involvement in the murder.
Abrar’s death sparked protest across Bangladesh. The protesters have demanded justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the murderers.
As of now, 13 people have been arrested in the murder case.
