A Sylhet court has sentenced industrialist Ragib Ali to 14 years in jail in a case filed for setting up illegal structures on land grabbed from an endowment property of Tarapur Tea Estate in the district.
The court also sentenced four other members of Ragib’s family, including his son Abdul Hai, to 16 years in jail each in the case.
The three other convicts are Ragib’s daughter Rojina Kadir, her husband Abdul Kadir, and a close relative, Dewan Mostak Mojid.

The court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman Hiro passed the order on Thursday afternoon.
All the convicts have been fined Tk10,000 each. In case any of them fail to pay the fine, they will have to serve three more months in jail.
Of the convicts, Ragib and his son Abdul are in jail while Rojina, Kadir, and Mojid are on the run.
The court also acquitted another accused in the case as he was found not guilty.
