Earlier, Investigation Officer (IO) Inspector Abdur Razzaq filed charges against 23 people over the murder

A Dhaka court has set July 22 to hear the charges in the Uttara schoolboy Adnan murder case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas set the date on Thursday as the assigned Judge Mohammad Didar Hossain was in vacation, said defense counsel Zahedul Islam Koyel.

According to case documents, on January 6, 2017, a local teenage gang, Disco Boys attacked the members of Nine Star in Dhaka’s Uttara area. Adnan, a Nine Star member, was assaulted, and critically injured during the incident. Later, he died while undergoing treatment at Uttara’s Lubana General Hospital.

Adnan’s father, Kabir Hossain lodged a case with Uttara west police station naming nine people, and accusing 10 to 12 other unidentified persons.

Investigation Officer (IO) Inspector Abdur Razzaq of Uttra west police station filed charges against 23 people over the murder.

According to police, Uttara’s “gang-culture” had become the bane of the youth there. Groups like Nine Star, Disco Boys, and Big Boss initially harassed girls, threw parties, and sped through the area on motorbikes while honking their horns. Eventually, they became entangled in rivalries among themselves and violence ensued.
