FR Tower fire: Owners of land, illegal floors sent to jail

The duo was previously remanded for seven days

A Dhaka court on Monday sent to jail Tasvir Ul Islam, one of the owners of the illegal floors in Banani’s FR Tower, and SMHI Faruque, the land owner of the building, in a case filed over the March 28 fire that killed 27 people and injured many others.

Metropolitan Magistrate Shadbir Yeasir Ahasan Chowdhury passed the order after scrapping their bail pleas.

The court also asked the jail authorities to arrange treatment for the accused as per the jail code.

At the time, case investigation officer and Detective Branch (DB) of police’s Inspector Jalal Uddin pleaded for keeping them behind bars for the sake of the investigation.

Police produced the duo before the court on Monday after their seven-day remand in police custody ended.

The same court had remanded Tasvir and Faruque on March 31.

Tasvir, a member of BNP’s central committee, and Faruque have been blamed in the case for collusion in causing loss of lives and properties with evil intention, severe injuries, and damage to properties through the fire caused by severe negligence.

Faruque and Tasvir were arrested from different areas of the capital after Banani police Sub-Inspector Milton Datta filed the case, accusing the two along with Rupayan Group Chairman Liaquat Ali Khan Mukul, on March 30.
