Man sentenced to death for wife’s murder in Netrokona

The convicted Faruk Mia remains a fugitive, while the court granted unconditional bail to his mother, Mazeda Begum, after being proven innocent in the case

A District and Sessions Judge Court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death in a case filed for the murder of his wife in Purbadhala upazila in Netrokona.

District and Sessions Judge, KM Rasheduzzaman Raja, handed down the verdict in absentia, after hearing statements from nine witnesses proving his guilt.

The convicted Faruk Mia remains a fugitive, while the court granted unconditional bail to his mother, Mazeda Begum, after being proven innocent in the case.

According to the case statement, on September 1, 2009, Faruk Mia, in an act of aggression murdered his wife Lovely Akter by suffocating her, resulting from previous friction and marital problems.

In this regard, the victim’s father filed a case against five individuals, including his son-in-law and mother, on the next day.

After thorough investigation, police submitted the charge sheet against Faruk Mia and his mother Mazeda Begum in court on July 31, 2012.
