Satkhira razakar Baki arrested

Police have arrested war crimes accused M Abdullahel Baki, 103, from his home in Bularati village under Satkhira Sadar upazila. “Before making the arrest Saturday night, we kept his house cordoned off since 12pm,” Sadar police OC Firoz Mollah told the Dhaka Tribune. Baki was taken to Dhaka on the same night and will be produced before the War Crimes Tribunal Sunday morning. The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal found involvement of the four accused including Baki in killing six people, torturing 14 people and raping 2 women in district Sadar and Ashashuni upazila during the 1971 Liberation War. Others are Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Abdul Khaleq Mandol, 72, Khan Rokonuzzaman, 64, and Jahirul Islam alias Jahirul Haque alias Tikka Khan. The four people were involved in incidents of crimes against humanity in Betna River area of Ashashuni, Gobindapur, Faizullahpur, Dhulihor, Kathanda, Boikari and Achaipara villages. Of the six charges, the first one says that on August 18, 1971, from the Betna River at Budhata under Ashashuni, razakars captured six marine commandos and shot two of them dead. The other four were taken to Diamond Hotel, the razakars’ district command office on Satkhira Sadar Road, and tortured brutally. The second charge described abduction of killing of one Komoruddin Dhali the same day. The third charge states that the razakars abducted one Sabdar Ali and his son Shahidul from Dhulihor Bazar. They were taken to Diamond Hotel and were never found again.
