4 Pirojpur war criminals sentenced to death

The investigation agency of the tribunal started the investigation of the case in 2016

The International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday sentenced four war criminals for their crimes against humanity in Pirojpur district  during the Liberation war.

A three-member tribunal led by its chairman Justice Md Shahinur Islam handed down the verdict. 

The accused who were sentenced to death are Abdul Mannan Howlader alias Abdul Mannan Dealer alias Mannan,75, Ashrab Ali alias Ashraf Ali Howladar ,67, Maharaj Howladar alias Hatkata Maharaj, 68 and Nurul Amin Howladar.

Prosecutor Sahidur Rahman was in the hearing for the prosecution in the case while prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman was with him. 

On the other hand, advocate Gazi MH Tamim stood for the convicted criminals.

Initially there were seven accused in the case. Among them, three died during the trial. 

After completing the investigation in this case, the investigation agency submitted the report in November 2018.

On April 12, 2016, the investigation agency of the tribunal started the investigation of the case.

Tribunal officer Badrul Alam started the investigation. After that, the investigation of this case ended on November 6. After the investigation, 33 people were made witnesses in this case.

Four charges of illegal detention, torture, kidnapping, looting, arson, rape, murder and genocide were brought against the criminals.
