Former State Minister for Education Ehsanul Haque Milon was granted bail in 18 cases on Monday after a two month-stint in prison.
According to his lawyer Kamrul Islam, an arrest warrant was issued for Ehsanul last year after he was named in 18 cases. He was arrested on November 23. Ehsanul asked for bail but was denied in the lower courts.
Last week, the High Court heard his bail petition and granted him bail in all the cases.
Ehsanul’s lawyers and wife received him at the prison gates and took him back home.
The former state minister was arrested for his alleged involvement in several murders, attempted murders, and extortion cases.
The former Chandpur-1 MP campaigned for nomination from jail, but was denied.
This however, is not the first time Ehsanul has been arrested. Earlier on March 14, 2010, Ehsanul was arrested for his alleged involvement in several petty crimes, robberies, and the murder of a local teacher. He was imprisoned for 14 months. He left prison when he was granted bail and went to perform Omrah in Saudi Arabia, after which he went to Malaysia claiming medical treatment. He returned from Malaysia before the recent national polls.
