Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have formed a seven-member committee to investigate the alleged attempted rape and attempted murder of a student by an outsider on campus.
The decision was taken at an emergency administrative meeting held around midnight on Saturday, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, said a press release issued by the university’s Public Relations Department.
Prof Dr Md Sohel Rana of the Department of Pharmacy will convene the committee.
The other members are Prof Dr Nahid Akhtar of the Department of Botany, Prof Md Zakir Hossain and Prof Md Zahir Rayhan of the Department of Philosophy, Prof Dr Nasrin Sultana of the Department of Government and Politics, and Prof Dr Md Kamrujjaman of the Department of Zoology.
Deputy Registrar (Higher Education and Scholarship) Lutfor Rahman Arif will serve as the member secretary.
According to the release, an outsider allegedly attempted to rape and murder the student on campus on the night of May 12.
The committee has been tasked with determining responsibility for the incident, identifying security lapses by the departments or individuals concerned, and recommending necessary measures.
The administration asked the committee to submit its investigation report, along with recommendations, within seven working days.
