The government has appointed Professor Dr Ziaur Rahman Choudhury, Principal of Sylhet Osmani Medical College, as the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Sylhet Medical University (SMU) for a four-year term.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued the appointment notification on Monday, signed by Deputy Secretary Ruhela Rahmat Ullah, with the approval of the President, who also serves as the Chancellor of the university.
According to the notification, the appointment will take effect from the date he assumes office.
Professor Ziaur Rahman Choudhury joined government service through the 17th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination. He reportedly remained without promotion for the past fifteen years during the Awami League tenure. Following the July uprising, he was appointed Principal of Sylhet Osmani Medical College.
He is the fourth Vice-Chancellor of Sylhet Medical University, replacing the incumbent VC, Professor Dr Ismail Hossain Patwary.
