A Dhaka court on Monday recorded the cross-examination of the last prosecution witness in the BDR carnage case, Abdul Kahar Akanda, who is also Investigation Officer (IO) of the case.
The deposition began at 11am on Monday and completed at 12pm at the temporary court set up under the Metropolitan Sessions Judge at Bakshi Bazar in the capital.
Defence Counsel Nasiruddin Pintu, a former MP, cross-examined the witness.
Some BNP-leaning senior lawyers like Barrister Moudud Ahmed, and Barrister Rafiqul Islam, were present at the court.
Abdul Kahar Akand was the 654th witness of the case.
On completion of the witness’ deposition, the court was adjourned.
It is due to resume after a brief interval today.
The court will examine the 342 accused of the case later.
Final argument of the case will begin after hearing the testimonies of all witnesses.
Seventy-four people, including 57 army officers, were killed during the BDR mutiny at Pilkhana on February 25-26, 2009.
After the mutiny, the name of Bangladesh Rifles was changed to Border Guard Bangladesh.
