The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court once again refused to accept BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul's explanation on his remarks about the judiciary.
The explanation Fakhrul submitted on Thursday had no mention of the reasons for making the comments, on which the apex court sought explanations.
The five-member bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha then ordered him to submit a fresh explanation specifying the reasons by Monday.
While hearing the explanation submitted by Fakhrul, Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha said: "You are politicians. It is better not to comment on the judiciary. We are shocked by your comments.
“Do politics...we have no objection. But it is better not to drag judiciary into politics."
Mirza Fakhrul, during a meeting of BNP’s Sylhet unit on February 7, said the government was trying to control the judiciary. He claimed that there was no democracy in the country, nor an independent judiciary.
He further said murder, enforced disappearance and abduction had been on sharp rise since the government took the office by force. The court fixed February 22 for the submission of the written explanation.
