A group of candidates who passed the 50th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) preliminary examination on Sunday held a protest demanding a two-month postponement of the written test, saying they have not had enough time to prepare.
They made the demand around 1pm at the base of the Raju Sculpture on the Dhaka University campus.
One of the protesters, Piku Barua, said: “We are here today (Sunday) with this reasonable demand so that the relevant authorities are made aware of the situation and give us at least a 2-month extension -- meaning the 50th BCS written exam should be held in July.”
Explaining the demand, he said candidates appearing for both cadres must sit for examinations worth a total of 1,200 marks. He added that preparing for the test normally requires 6 to 9 months.
“We have been given just 58 days,” he said.
Piku Barua also said much of that time was lost during Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr, when libraries and coaching centers remained closed.
The protesters said they had already submitted a memorandum to the Public Service Commission (PSC) but had not received any response. They also said no further program of action has been decided yet.
