Food, Fisheries and Livestock, and Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid on Sunday said the government is committed to building a better Bangladesh for future generations, stressing that ensuring food security remains central to the country’s long-term development.

He made the remarks at an exchange of views meeting with officials of the Ministry of Food at its conference room in Dhaka.

“Our goal is to leave behind a beautiful Bangladesh for the next generation. We are working toward that vision,” the minister said, adding that public expectations from the current government are high following what he described as a free and acceptable election.

Drawing a historical analogy, he said that just as previous generations left the world in a condition that allowed the present generation to thrive, it is now the responsibility of today’s citizens to safeguard and improve the country for those who will come next.

The minister said Bangladesh currently has adequate food stocks and the government’s next target is to achieve full food self-sufficiency and eventually export food products abroad. “We must work together to reach this goal,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of agriculture, he noted that around 70% of the country’s population is directly or indirectly involved in the sector. Strengthening the economic foundation of farmers would, in turn, reinforce the broader national economy, he added.

“Ultimately, development and progress are deeply rooted in food security. No matter how much wealth one accumulates, the basic truth of life remains the alleviation of hunger,” he said, underscoring the national importance of food production, fisheries, meat and egg output.

State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, MP, and Food Secretary Md Firoz Sarkar, among other senior officials, were present at the meeting.

The state minister said people in the country are seeking change and no longer want to see inequality or corruption.

He emphasized the need for teamwork and collective efforts to achieve the government’s goal of building a better Bangladesh for future generations.

Food Secretary Firoz Sarkar said officials and staff of the ministry would continue to work with sincerity to implement government initiatives effectively.
