NBR directs officials, staff to ensure presence and services at offices

The authority warned of strict action against misconduct, urging staff to stick to their duties during this crucial time

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has expressed deep concern over disruptions to normal activities at its field-level offices amid the ongoing movement by employees. In response, the organization has issued strict instructions to ensure attendance and uninterrupted public service.

According to a press release signed by NBR’s Public Relations Officer Md Al-Amin Sheikh on Friday, the ongoing protest under the banner of the NBR Reform Unity Council has disrupted operations at key revenue offices, including customs, income tax and VAT departments.

“As a result, the public is being deprived of expected services, which is affecting economic activities and revenue management across the country,” the press release added.

The NBR warned that, under government service rules, absence from duty without permission, leaving the office during work hours, or arriving late constitute clear breaches of discipline and are punishable offences.

It cautioned that stern action will be taken to prevent such behaviour.

Emphasizing the importance of maintaining revenue collection, trade, and import-export operations in the final three working days of the current fiscal year, the directive instructed all commissioners of Customs Houses, Tax Commissionerates, and Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerates to ensure the presence of all officers and employees under their authority.

Additionally, in cases of urgent official needs requiring an employee to leave the office, prior approval from the head of the respective office and entry in the designated register have been made mandatory.

The notice clearly stated that those who remain absent or fail to attend on time in defiance of the directive will face disciplinary action as per government rules.
