To ensure smooth implementation of the national budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and all its offices will remain open on the next two Saturdays (June 21 and June 28) despite the weekly holidays.
The directive was issued in an official order signed by Umme Ayman Kashemi, second secretary (Board Administration-1) of the NBR, on Wednesday.
The order said that, as budget-related activities are currently ongoing, all NBR offices involved in revenue collection—including customs, VAT, and income tax—will be operational on the two Saturdays.
According to sources, a recent ordinance was issued to restructure the NBR by separating revenue management and revenue policy into two distinct divisions.
However, the move has effectively been put on hold following prolonged protests by officials and employees. This has raised concerns about potential shortfalls in revenue collection at the very outset of the fiscal year.
To mitigate such risks and make the most of the budget implementation period, the NBR has decided to keep its offices open on holidays for extended operational hours.
A senior official of the revenue board said: “We do not want to see any delays or shortfalls at the start of the national budget implementation. That is why we have decided to keep offices open on the two Saturdays.”
It is worth noting that the size of the 2025–26 budget stands at approximately Tk8,00,000 crore, with a revenue income target of Tk5,35,00 crore.
