Students from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) formed a human chain to protest against the "false" cases filed against students, the expulsion of 37 students, and attacks on general students at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet).
They made these announcements on Tuesday, on the Buet campus.
Participants criticized the role of Kuet's vice chancellor and administration, deeming it controversial and negative, and demanded accountability.
Al Farabi, a student from the 20th batch of the Mechanical Engineering Department, said that expelling "innocent" students who are peacefully protesting for a secure campus free from student politics is completely unacceptable.
"We, the students of Buet, stand with Kuet's general students in their legitimate movement and strongly demand the immediate withdrawal of these false cases, justice for the real culprits, and strict accountability for the controversial and negative role played by Kuet's VC and administration."
Buet students said that they stand against this injustice and support Kuet students. They said that the student community of this country would be forced to take stricter measures if appropriate action is not taken promptly by the Kuet administration. They also urged the cooperation of relevant government authorities in this matter.
The Buet human chain protest alleged that "motivated, baseless, and politically driven false cases" have been filed against 22 people using the names of "innocent" protesting general students at Kuet.
In a written statement, Al Farabi said: "It's bewildering and deeply concerning how innocent protesting students were included in these cases without a proper investigation or identifying the perpetrators. Needless to say, the role of the Kuet administration is highly questionable. We want to clearly state that this process reflects the inaction, failure, and bias of the Kuet administration and investigation committee."
He concluded: "Suppressing talented students for political gain will not bring any overall benefit to the country and destroys the spirit of the July Movement."
Earlier, on February 18, repeated clashes broke out on the Kuet campus between supporters of Chhatra Dal (student wing of BNP) and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement over demands to ban student politics; more than fifty students were injured in these incidents.
Following this incident, 37 students were suspended. This decision was made during Kuet's syndicate meeting on Monday night.
