Pohela Boishakh, the vibrant festival of the Bangla New Year, will be celebrated with great enthusiasm, excitement, and joy on April 14.
As in previous years, a “Shobhajatra” (festive procession) will be brought out from Dhaka University (DU) to mark the first day of the Bangla calendar. Additionally, various events will take place across different parts of the capital, just like the rest of the country.
To facilitate the celebration, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued special traffic guidelines for the capital.
Diversion/barrier points
From 5am on Monday, April 14, roads around Ramna Park (Ramna Batamul), Suhrawardy Udyan, Dhaka University, and nearby areas will be closed or redirected to control traffic. The affected points are: Bangla Motor Crossing/Navy Gap, Police Building Crossing, Sugandha Crossing, Kakrail Church Crossing, Kadam Foara Crossing, High Court Crossing (East and South), Doel Square Crossing, Romana Crossing, Dhaka University Medical Centre, Jagannath Hall Crossing, Sculpture Crossing, Nilkhet Crossing, and Katabon Crossing.
Vehicle movement directions
- Except for the diversion points mentioned above, vehicles will be allowed to move on the following routes around Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Udyan, and Dhaka University:
- Passenger vehicles from Mirpur–Farmgate heading towards Shahbagh must turn left at Bangla Motor Crossing, proceed via Moghbazar Crossing, and reach their destination.
- Passenger vehicles from Golap Shah Mazar Crossing–High Court Crossing heading towards Shahbagh will go through Kadam Foara Crossing, UBL Crossing, and Nightingale Crossing to reach their destination.
- Vehicles from Science Lab Crossing heading to Shahbagh will proceed via Mirpur Road to Azimpur Crossing, then through Chankharpul Crossing and Bakshibazar Crossing to reach their destination.
Designated parking areas
- From Navy Gap to Holy Family Hospital,
- From Matsya Bhaban Crossing to Segunbagicha (for law enforcement vehicles),
- Alley by Shilpakala Academy (for law enforcement vehicles),
- From Katabon Crossing through Nilkhet to Palashi Crossing,
- From Doel Square Crossing to Shahidullah Hall Crossing.
The DMP has requested everyone’s full cooperation to ensure a smooth and joyous celebration of Pohela Boishakh.
