The interim government has declared a holiday in the hilly regions on Chaitra Sankranti, the last day of the Bangla month of Chaitra.

The decision was made during a meeting of the advisory council on Thursday, Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, announced at a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.

"Many festivals, including Biju, Boisabi, and Sangrai, are celebrated on Chaitra Sankranti in the hilly regions. To facilitate these celebrations, a holiday has been declared through an executive order," Shafiqul Alam said.

He added that the holiday would also apply to ethnic communities in the plains, such as the Santal, Khasi, and Garo people.
