Government officials and employees are set to enjoy an extended holiday this Eid, as the official five-day Eid vacation is complemented by additional holidays for Independence Day, Shab-e-Qadr and weekends.
As a result, most of the last week of March and the first week of April will fall within the holiday period.
According to the Islamic Foundation, Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be observed on March 31, subject to the sighting of the moon.
The government has scheduled the Eid holidays accordingly, granting an official five-day break for the first time.
As per the 2025 calendar, the holiday period begins on March 26, marking Independence Day.
Offices will remain open for a single day on March 27, followed by the holiday for Shab-e-Qadr on March 28.
The Eid-ul-Fitr holidays will then commence on March 29 and continue for five consecutive days until April 2.
Following the Eid break, offices will reopen for a single working day on April 3 (Thursday), before closing again for the weekend on April 4 and 5 (Friday and Saturday).
Effectively, between March 26 and April 5—a span of 11 days—offices will be open for only two days.
However, as per the Prescribed Leave Rules, 1959, employees cannot officially take leave between designated holidays.
A senior official from the Ministry of Public Administration’s regulations wing clarified that employees cannot take leave only on April 3.
However, if they apply for leave on April 3 along with April 4 and 5, they can extend their holiday from March 29 to April 5, effectively enjoying a nine-day break.
Similarly, employees cannot take leave only on March 27.
However, if they take leave on both March 26 and 27, they will be able to enjoy an uninterrupted six-day holiday from March 28 to April 2.
