The government has declared a seven-day general holiday for all public and private offices on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification in this regard on Thursday, stating that the holiday will be effective from May 25 to May 31.
According to the notification, all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private institutions will remain closed during this period. However, offices will remain open on May 23 and 24 ahead of the holiday period. Notably, government employees will be required to attend the office on May 23 despite it being a weekly holiday.
The notification further said that Bangladesh Bank will issue necessary instructions regarding the operations of banks and financial institutions during the holiday period. The Supreme Court will also provide directives concerning the functioning of lower and higher courts.
In addition, the Ministry of Labour and Employment will take necessary measures and issue instructions regarding the holiday arrangements for private industries and factories in line with the Labour Act, 2006.
It is noted that, subject to moon sighting, Eid-ul-Azha is expected to be celebrated in the country on May 28.
