Update : 19 Mar 2025, 07:47 PM

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken all necessary preparations to ensure a festive and safe environment for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, as well as to maintain overall security in homes, various institutions, and shopping malls during the holiday.

The information was provided in a press release sent by the DMP's Media and Public Relations Division on Wednesday, reports Bangla Tribune.

According to the statement, auxiliary police have already been recruited to assist law enforcement, and they will play an effective role in maintaining order.

Along with police efforts, raising awareness about security at the individual and institutional levels can further improve overall law and order and contribute to crime prevention, it added.

Additionally, the security measures taken by the DMP, city residents have been urged to follow certain guidelines to ensure greater safety for homes, institutions, and shopping malls during Eid.

These guidelines include:

  • Security personnel assigned to guard homes, apartments, banks, insurance offices, institutions, and shopping malls must strengthen their duties, ensuring round-the-clock surveillance to prevent any illegal intrusion. Necessary measures should be taken to oversee overall security. Institutions should consider leaving a portion of their staff on duty instead of granting all employees leave at the same time.
  • Before leaving homes or institutions, doors and windows must be securely locked. If necessary, multiple locks should be used. Weak doors and windows should be repaired to ensure maximum security.
  • Adequate CCTV cameras should be installed in homes, institutions, and shopping malls, and it must be ensured that the cameras remain operational.
  • The main doors of homes should be equipped with auto-locks and security alarm locks.
  • Sufficient lighting should be arranged around homes and institutions at night.
  • Money, valuables, and important documents should be kept in a safe place or entrusted to close relatives. If needed, the assistance of bank lockers can be sought.
  • Before leaving, residents should inform neighbors or occupants of adjacent flats who will be staying in the city, requesting them to keep an eye on the house and maintain regular phone communication.
  • Tenants must inform their landlords in advance if they plan to leave the house for Eid.
  • Security personnel at homes or institutions must be instructed and alerted to prevent unauthorized entry.
  • Before leaving, it must be ensured that all electrical switches (lights, fans, etc.), water taps, and gas stoves are turned off.
  • The garages of homes and institutions must be properly secured.
  • If there are trees with branches near windows or doors, unnecessary branches should be trimmed to prevent criminals from using them to gain access.
  • If any suspicious individuals are seen loitering in the neighborhood or near a house, the local police outpost or station should be informed.
  • If any untoward incident occurs or is likely to occur in the neighborhood or home during Eid, the local police outpost or station should be informed immediately.

For emergency police assistance, residents have been urged to contact the DMP control room at the following numbers: 01320-037845, 01320-037846, 223381188, 0247119988, 029619999, or the national emergency service at 999.
