On Monday, Wikipedia starts its journey on the Sylheti language.
The Sylheti Wikipedia is currently open to the public from February 25, 2025.
The version uses using Nagri script for its articles.
On February 14, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees and language committee approved the proposal of Sylheti Wikipedia.
Currently, the Sylheti Wikipedia has 2249 articles. It has nine active contributors and around 50 people have contributed so far.
Abu Sayeed, a contributor of Sylheti Wikipedia told Dhaka Tribune: ''The journey started a decade ago, and now finally we are pleased to see the version live."
He remarked that this is a conservation effort for both the Sylheti language and the Nagri script. He has co-authored a book titled "Aao Nagri Hiki" (Let's Learn Nagri) with Alim Uddin Chowdhury.

The proposal of Wikipedia in the Sylheti language was submitted in June 2014 which was followed by an incubator page.
