Adilur Rahman Khan, adviser for the Ministry of Industries, said on Tuesday that the interim government is actively working to protect human rights, which were severely undermined by the previous Awami League administration.

“The interim government has taken steps to ensure the people’s freedom while also establishing human rights. As part of this effort, reforms are being introduced in various sectors, including law enforcement, administration, and the judiciary,” he said while addressing a workshop on "Implementing the Law with Emphasis on Human Rights and the Environment in the Changing Situation of the Country" at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh.

The industries adviser emphasized that law enforcement agencies must operate with a strong commitment to fundamental human rights principles, while the judiciary must function effectively and independently.

Adilur further added that hundreds of people were victims of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings during the tenure of the previous fascist government.

“The administrative and judicial systems, along with the entire state structure, were manipulated to sustain the fascist regime,” he said.

He also acknowledged the contributions of students, the general public, and political and human rights activists in the July uprising, which ultimately led to the downfall of the Awami League government.
