Education Adviser: Bring your just demands to me, not on the streets

‘Many demands have already subsided because we assured them that their legitimate demands would be resolved’

Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud has urged students to engage in discussions over their rightful demands instead of blocking roads.

He made the statement on Monday while responding to questions from journalists following an Ecnec meeting held at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.

Earlier, under the chairmanship of Interim Government Chief Adviser and Ecnec Chairperson Dr Muhammad Yunus, a meeting of Ecnec was held at the NEC conference room within the Planning Commission premises, during which five projects were approved.

When asked about a solution to the recurring student protests in Dhaka that have been inconveniencing the public, the Wahiduddin said: "It has often been said that workers and students are protesting. It’s not just students; many organizations are holding protests in Dhaka, blocking roads. How can we resolve these? I alone cannot provide the solution.”

He urged the students to bring their just demands to him, and assured that they would be addressed. “Many demands have already subsided because we assured them that their legitimate demands would be resolved.”

He continued: “However, there are some demands that are not just, and those will not be accepted. Even when the demands are unjust, rail lines are being blocked, and passengers are being attacked—such actions will only turn the public against them. In this respect, we are at an advantage. People are beginning to say they will resist those who cause suffering with unjust demands."
