In response to a recent interview with President Muhammed Shahabuddin, the interim government advisers provided explanations throughout the day on Monday.
Questions arose regarding why former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation letter would not be with the president and whether the president was speaking the truth.
By the end of the day, philosopher, poet and political analyst Farhad Mazhar posted a Facebook status directed at Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud.
He wrote: “Asif Mahmud Bhuiyan claimed that the authoritarian killer Hasina verbally resigned to the president. Although she was supposed to take the resignation letter to Bangabhaban, she was forced to flee when students and the public approached Ganabhaban.”
Mazhar continued: “Asif, this is not true. There was never any mention of a verbal resignation. It has always been stated that the resignation letter would be given to the president. That is why I asked to see the resignation letter in one of my videos. You were unable to show it then. Why are you now spreading false stories about a verbal resignation?
“We have always said that taking the oath in front of President Md Shahabuddin was a suicidal decision. But that is what you did. You created a military-backed advisory government. Acknowledge the reality. Revisit my videos and read the posts again,” added Farhad Mazhar.
Addressing Adviser Asif, he further added: “You have not listened to any of us. You haven’t even felt the need to speak. Many of you claimed the train has left, and nothing can be done now. This is also untrue. There are definitely solutions. Please do not spread confusion about the resignation letter instead of discussing solutions.”
Mazhar asserted that Adviser Asif Nazrul and the team (other advisers) must explain on what grounds they included the people's uprising under a fascist constitution and played a supportive role in a constitutional counter-revolution.
“How will you extricate yourselves from the serious political and legal complexities that have now arisen? The military-backed advisory government remains illegal. What are you doing to establish its legitimacy?”
He continued: “The political conspiracy you formed with the chief of army staff and some high-ranking officers appointed by fascist Hasina has been questionable from the start. It has now taken on a much more complicated form. Not only that, but you have also denied the patriotism of ordinary soldiers and their contribution to the people's uprising.
“The July uprising was a revolt of students, the public, and soldiers. However, you conspired with the army chief appointed by fascist Hasina while denying the contributions of ordinary soldiers. Is it right to conspire with Hasina’s generals instead of transforming the patriotism and loyalty of ordinary soldiers into people’s power? Learn to self-criticize.
“The way you have upheld the fascist state system in the name of so-called constitutional void and continuity is poised to strike Bangladesh like a venomous snake. Please recognize the disruption you have caused in realizing the people's intentions through the uprising. Seek a path to resolution.”
