65-year-old woman gang-raped in Suhrawardy Udyan

Police sent the victim to the DMCH OCC department after providing her primary treatment

A 65-year-old woman has been victimized of a gang-rape incident and severely beaten in Suhrawardy Udyan.

The incident took place around 1:30am on Saturday.

The woman was rescued unconscious next noon by some students and handed over to the Shahabag police station.

Sub- Inspector Jahangir Alam of the police station lodged a case on behalf of the victim.

The lodged case document mentions that the woman came to Dhaka from Narayanganj to get relief money. The woman stayed at Suhrawardy Udyan alone to collect more relief. The woman got raped while she entered the Suhrawardy Udyan to drink water from tape, and around 7-8 people coveted the victim to provide her with more relief.

They brought the woman to the Ramna Kali Mandir area, then beat her severely and gang-raped her.

Police sent the victim to the DMCH OCC department after providing her primary treatment. 

Israt Jahan Emu, a DU student who was one of the rescuers, told the Dhaka Tribune: “We rescued the woman from the Chabir Hat area of Suhrawardy Uddyan. She was unconscious, and we witnessed severe marks of beating on her body. She was unable to talk to us. After rescuing her, we handed her over to the police.”

The police filed the case and asked for help from CID to identify the woman.

A source from Shahabag police station told the correspondent that they have sent a sample to the forensic department to find evidence of her being raped. However, the source said that it was undoubtedly proved by the sign and marks of the victim's body that the woman was raped.
