The Energy Division has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the interim government has canceled the arrangement of gas supply to India via pipeline.
In a press release on Thursday, the government provided a clarification in this regard.
It stated that since August 25, various social media platforms have claimed that gas was being exported from Bangladesh to India via pipeline. The claims also suggest that the previous Awami League government had arranged for this pipeline gas export, but the current government has canceled the decision. It is further alleged that Bangladesh has also disconnected gas supplies to various Indian states, with a video circulating to this effect.
The press release clarified that, in reality, no natural gas has ever been exported from Bangladesh to India via pipeline.
“Bangladesh has stopped gas supplies to India is incorrect. Although LPG gas is exported, its supply has not been halted. The video being circulated is two years old and pertains to a different issue.”
The release emphasized that natural gas has never been supplied to India through pipelines.
The viral claim about the closure of gas lines to India’s Seven Sisters is entirely false and deliberately misleading, it added further.
