A lawyer has submitted a petition to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) seeking an investigation into six corruption allegations against national cricketer Shakib Al Hasan.
Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Milhanur Rahman Naumi applied with the ACC Chairman on Wednesday, reports Daily Star.
The allegations against Shakib Al Hasan include share market fraud, illegal gambling operations, gold smuggling, embezzlement from crab traders, corruption in cricket, and concealing asset information in his election affidavit.
Currently, Shakib Al Hasan is in Pakistan playing Test cricket for the national team.
Additionally, a murder case has already been filed against him at Adabor police station in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, Dr Asif Nazrul, the interim government’s adviser for the law ministry, on Wednesday said he hopes the national cricket team’s ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who is currently in Pakistan for a bilateral series and accused in a murder case, will not be arrested upon his return to the country.
Shakib had not brought anything controversial to Bangladesh's politics, the adviser said on Wednesday while speaking to reporters.
“He has achieved a lot on his own. It is just that a case has been filed against him."
Shakib is an accused in a case filed over the death of Rubel, who died on August 7, succumbing to gunshot wounds during a protest march on August 5 on Ring Road in Adabor, Dhaka.
Following the filing of the case, a Supreme Court lawyer sent a legal notice to the Bangladesh Cricket Board asking it to remove Shakib from the national cricket team and bring him back to the country for investigation purposes.
