Hi-tech parks to be renamed after their respective districts

ICT Adviser Nahid Islam says hi-tech parks have not been able to yield expected results

Hi-tech parks, software technology parks, and IT training and incubation centres across Bangladesh will be changed and named after the districts they are located in.

The decision came at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority at ICT Tower in Agargaon on Wednesday.

During the meeting, ICT Adviser Md Nahid Islam said: "There are many complaints about the allotment and cancellation of land for hi-tech parks. Therefore, it is necessary to review whether there has been any irregularity or corruption in this regard."

He added: "We did not get the expected results according to the purpose for which the hi-tech parks were created across the country. It is necessary to further review whether there were political reasons for not getting it, whether there was corruption, or whether there was any deficiency in our capacity. If these issues are identified, it will be easier to work forward."

“We need to study more about how foreign countries are working and how we can advance the work within our capabilities. Besides, practical work needs to be done without having very high expectations.”

When a proposal was made to name the dormitories of the hi-tech parks after Mugdho, Abu Sayed and others killed during the recent student movement, the adviser did not agree and said: "There is no need to hurry like the Awami League government in this regard. The memories of the movement's martyrs will be preserved in such a way that they last a lifetime."

A decision was made to release the property management company at the Sheikh Hasina Software Technology Park in Jessore and appoint a new one through an open tender process in a short period.
