Protesters supporting the quota reform movement have taken a position and blocked Shahbagh intersection under the banner of the Anti-Discriminatory Student Movement.
Rallies were held in several places in the capital in support of the demands of the quota activists.
However, the Shahbag intersection was empty.After 4pm the atmosphere suddenly changed.
Chhatra League leaders and activists took a position on one side of the Shahbagh intersection.
Later, around 4:30pm agitators arrived there with a procession. At this time, the traffic through the Shahbagh intersection was halted. Later, Chhatra League activists moved away.
Earlier, anti-discrimination student protesters were accused of tearing up the mourning day banner. They tore down a banner of the Chhatra League at Shahbagh during the mass rally.
The protestors tore down the banner of the Chhatra League in front of the Shahbagh National Museum. However, no statement from the student movement was received regarding this complaint.
Eyewitnesses said that the students gathered at Shahbagh in a mass procession. Among them, some of the agitators tore down the banner of the Chhatra League in front of the National Museum.
A large number of policemen were seen stationed in the area around Shahbagh police station.
Under the banner of the Anti-Discriminatory Student Movement, students on Friday, blocked the capital's Science Lab area.
The Anti-Discrimination Students’ Movement on Thursday announced a nationwide prayers and mass procession for Friday to press home their nine-point demand.
The program was announced in a press release sent by Abdul Kader, a coordinator of the movement.
The campaign is being organized in memory of all those who were martyred, injured, arrested, or participated in the movement.
