Man injured during quota protests succumbs to injuries at DMCH

A new death has been reported at Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital following violence surrounding the quota reform movement.

Abdur Rahman, 44, a farmer by profession, passed away at 7:15am on Wednesday while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of DMCH.

After an autopsy, his body was handed over to his family.

With this death, the total number of fatalities due to violence related to the quota movement reported at DMCH reached 99.

Abdur Rahman was shot while he was at a market in Narsingdi on July 20. He was later rescued in a serious condition and brought to DMCH for treatment.

Abdur Rahman’s brother-in-law Abul Bashar reported that Abdul Rahman went to the market around 2:30pm that day. While returning home after shopping, he was suddenly shot and fell to the ground.

He was initially taken to a local hospital in a bloodied state. Due to his deteriorating condition, he was transferred to DMCH that night for advanced treatment, where he passed away this morning, he added.

In total, 169 deaths have been confirmed across 14 public and private hospitals in Dhaka related to the quota movement violence.
