A rumor has been circulating on social media claiming that protesters had gathered in Mirpur on Monday morning.
However, during a visit to the area from morning till 2pm, it was observed that there were no large gatherings of protesters in Mirpur 10, 11, 2, Kazipara, or surrounding areas.
Old photos were used to call people from their homes to the streets. Of these, images and videos of a massive gathering in Mirpur were circulated on various pages and groups, causing public confusion.
Expressing satisfaction over the logical reforms to the quota system, the six coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, announced on Sunday at the DB office that all programs were being called off.
However, other co-coordinators of the movement claimed that this announcement was made under duress. They announced that the programs would continue.
Despite calling for nationwide student and public protests on Monday, no specific start time was mentioned in the announcement.
No one attempted to hold a rally. Vehicle movement in Mirpur was normal, and markets were open. However, additional police forces were deployed.
While talking to a bus driver of the Motijheel to Mirpur 12 route, it was learned that no protestors anywhere on the road except for Paltan.
Meanwhile, a group attempted to gather at the ECB Chattar in Mirpur but were dispersed afterward.
Additionally, several suspects were seen being detained from surrounding areas.
Furthermore, Awami League members were seen stationed at various points.
Police were patrolling different alleys. A patrolling police officer said: "We are trying to see if any miscreants or troublemakers attempt to gather. No one has been arrested, but suspicious individuals are being questioned."
