Heavy rain has drenched Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh since Monday morning.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast light to moderate, and occasionally heavy to very heavy rainfall or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds across all eight divisions of the country in the next 24 hours, starting at 9am on Monday.
“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur in most places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions, with moderately heavy to very heavy falls in different places over the country," said a weather bulletin.
The monsoon is active in Bangladesh and strong elsewhere in the North Bay, it added.
In an extended weather outlook for the next 72 hours, the bulletin predicted that rainfall activity is likely to continue.
Meanwhile, the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been asked to hoist local cautionary signal no. 3.
The country's maximum temperature yesterday was recorded at 33.8°C in Jessore, while the minimum temperature of 23.8°C was recorded in Bandarban.
Rainfall for the 24 hours from 6am yesterday was recorded at 108mm in Bandarban.
Amid the rainfall, three people were killed and another was injured by lightning strikes in Narail Sadar upazila early yesterday.
The deceased were Ratan Roy of Jessore’s Manirampur upazila, Milton Roy of Khulna’s Nijgram, and Nanda Dali of Satkhira’s Tala upazila.
The injured, Chitto Malo, is now undergoing treatment at Narail Sadar Hospital.
Quoting locals, Prodip Kumar Biswas, a member of Kalora Union parishad under Narail Sadar upazila, said the victims left their homes 25 days ago to graze pigs and arrived in Narail Sadar upazila three days ago after visiting different areas.
Lightning struck them around midnight, leaving three people dead on the spot, he said.
Locals spotted the bodies lying on the ground and another person writhing in pain in the morning, the UP member added.
Narail Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Sajedur Rahman confirmed the matter and said the bodies had been sent to the Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The bodies will be handed over to the families of the deceased after completion of legal procedures, he added.
