A team of Bangladesh Coast Guard detained people on charge of transporting 16,800 kg jatkas from the Meghna river in Hatia of Noakhali.
Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Toki, media officer of Coast Guard headquarters, confirmed the matter.
On secret information, a team of coast guard under BCG station in Hatia led by section commander M Rafiqul Islam conducted the drive in the Dhalchar area of the river.
The team recovered 16,800kg jatkas from carrying out a raid in a bulkhead and detained 16 people from there.
Later, the recovered jatkas was distributed to orphan and people.
However, the detainees were released on bond.
