The Coast Guard has detained three criminals with five locally made firearms and 17 rounds of live ammunition in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Coast Guard media officer Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the matter on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team from Coast Guard stations conducted a special operation around 1am on Tuesday in the Badar Awlia Ghat area under Chakaria police station.
The team detained three people and recovered four locally made single-barrel guns, one double-barrel gun and 17 rounds of live ammunition.
The detainees were identified as Akhtar Ahmed, 78, Md Tanvir, 21, and Rukomuddin, 42. All are residents of Cox’s Bazar.
According to the Coast Guard, a group of five to six people had been staying in the area to supply firearms to a gang involved in theft and robbery targeting commercial vessels at sea.
