Newly appointed Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen on Tuesday expressed grief over the death of the five-year-old child who passed away during a circumcision procedure at United Medical College Hospital.

"If anyone is found guilty, they will be brought under the law. A probe body has been formed to investigate the matter,” the health minister said after receiving a memorandum from the child, Ayan's father Md Shamim Ahmed, at the secretariat.

The minister said he is yet to receive the probe report.

Samanta Lal Sen later instructed to close all unlicensed private hospitals, diagnostic centers and clinics across the country.

On Sunday, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) ordered the closure of United Medical College Hospital located in the Satarkul area of Dhaka following Ayan’s death.

On December 31, Ayan was taken to United Medical College Hospital on Badda Madani Avenue by his father, Shamim Ahmed, for circumcision on a Tk10,000 package.

Ayan was given full anaesthesia there, reportedly without parental consent.

When, several hours after the operation, he still was not conscious, the hospital moved him to its Gulshan branch.

Following seven days of keeping Ayan on life support, medical professionals in the paediatric intensive care unit declared him dead late on Sunday.

The anaesthesia was administered by Dr Sabbir Ahmed while Dr Mehzabin conducted the circumcision surgery.
