Report: 68% Bangladeshis live in villages

  • 31.66% live in urban areas
  • 85,600,000 are women

A total of 68.34% of Bangladesh's total population resides in rural areas, while 31.66% live in urban areas, according to the latest “Population and Housing Census 2022”. 

The total population of the country stands at 169,828,911, as revealed in the census released on Tuesday.

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), under the Statistics and Informatics Division, released the national report of the country's first digital “Population and Housing Census 2022”. 

The report was presented by Project Director Dildar Hossain at a function held in the Statistics Building Auditorium in Dhaka.

According to the final figures of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), among the total population of 169,800,000, the number of women is 85,600,000 and men is 84,100,000.

The published report revealed that based on division-wise data observation, the highest population is in Dhaka, with 45,644,586 people living there. 

In Chittagong, the population is 34,178,000, in Rajshahi 20,080,000, in Rangpur 18,020,071, in Khulna 17,813,218, in Mymensingh 12,637,472, in Sylhet 11,415,113, and the lowest in Barisal with 9,325,820 people.
