Without increasing existing rates or imposing any new tax, Barisal City Corporation (BCC) has announced a budget of around Tk442 crore for the year 2023-24.
Mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah announced the last budget of his tenure at the Barisal Club in the city on Thursday.
This is also the fifth budget of Abdullah and the 21st of BCC.
BCC Chief Executive Officer Syed Farooq Ahmed, Panel Mayor Gazi Naimul Hossain Litu, councilors, and journalists were present on the occasion.
The total budget size is Tk442.7 crore while the revised budget for the outgoing FY was Tk171.94 crore.
The major income sources for the budget include Tk125 crore from the corporation’s own source, Tk36.5 crore from government grants for the development sector, Tk11.45 crore from government grants for the revenue sector, and Tk246 crore from government and foreign aid projects.
Proposed expenditure heads include Tk119 crore for construction and maintenance of roads, drains, bridges and other infrastructures, Tk53.13 crore for salaries and allowances of staff, Tk97.39 crore for environmental development and sanitation, Tk8.29 crore for social security, Tk28 crore for preservations of canals and ponds and Tk73 crore for waste management.
The significant expenditure heads include Tk246 crore in government and foreign aid projects. Of this sum, Tk11 crore will be spent on drains and culverts, Tk10 crore for beautification of TB ponds, Tk10 crore for construction of ward-based amusement parks and cultural center, Tk30 crore for construction of the remaining part of Bangabandhu Auditorium, Tk50 crore for reconstruction of Rupatali and Belatla surface water treatment plants, Tk60 core for drainage and waste development project, and Tk60 crore for a canal-bank conservation project.
