State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Monday said that the foundation of Bangladesh's development is built upon the political wisdom and foresight of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The Father of the Nation had shown his prudence through purchasing five gas fields from a British company at a cost of 4.5 million pounds, said the state minister while addressing a discussion meeting and prayer ceremony on the occasion of the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu and National Mourning Day at Bidyut Bhaban on Monday.

Nasrul Hamid mentioned that Bangladesh has so far produced gas from the fields worth Tk6,21,000 crores while the value of remaining gas will be Tk 3,17,000 crores.

“Another landmark decision of Bangabandhu was to send officers and students for training abroad for human resource development,” he remarked.

"In just a span of a little over three years, the transformative contributions Bangabandhu made in our economic, social, and administrative sectors are rare in world history," he emphasized.

Bangladesh became independent under his prudent leadership and anti-liberation forces halted the development and progress of the country by assassinating him, he continued.

“The anti-liberation forces, and their subsequent generations, targeted our prime minister, the daughter of democracy, Sheikh Hasina, with 19 assassination attempts,” said the state minister.

Referring to the tragic incident in 2004, he remarked: "The grenade attack on August 21, which claimed 24 innocent lives, is a painful reminder of the action of such forces.”

“With such anti-liberation parties opposing our progress, Bangladesh's growth trajectory and its very democracy remain under threat. A collective, unified response against them is paramount," he added.
