Planning Minister MA Mannan has said he considered himself fortunate to have had the privilege of meeting the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"During the final moments of the Pakistan era, I had the opportunity to meet with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to discuss the possibility of regaining my CSP job. I consider myself fortunate that I had the privilege of meeting Bangabandhu,” he recounted during a doa mahfil to commemorate the National Mourning Day held at the Planning Ministry on Tuesday.

Recalling that moment, he said: "Upon our first meeting, Bangabandhu asked me 'What brings you here?' Then I replied that I was there to regain my job.  He then told Tofail (Tofail Ahmed), take note, we need our youth.”

However, despite Bangabandhu's assurance, it took two years to regain my job due to bureaucratic hurdles, he added.

Referring to the assassination of Bangabandhu the minister said: "There is no such heinous act in this world. ’

Planning minister said: "I hold a certain regret. That is, during the Liberation War, I didn't engage in combat, didn't wield a weapon. I feel ashamed as a human being."
