Four sustain burns in explosion at multi-storied building in Narayanganj

Four people sustained burns while two others were injured in an explosion in a flat in a multi-storied building in Fatulla, Narayanganj Saturday night. 

The burn victims and injured are Sabuj Khandkar, the owner of a hosiery factory in Hossaininagar area, Rana Mia, a garment factory worker, his wife Beethi Akhter, their child, and fruit trader Abu Kalam. The other person has not been identified.

The burnt victims were rescued and sent to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.

Locals said that at 12:30am there was a loud explosion from a flat on the fifth floor of the building. At that time, when the fire spread inside that flat, people from the surrounding area went and rescued the burnt and injured people and took them to Narayanganj Sadar General (Victoria) Hospital. From there, four burnt people were sent to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.

Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Fakhar Uddin Ahmad said: “The burnt and injured people have been rescued and admitted to various hospitals. The door and window of that flat were broken. The furniture of the house was burnt in the fire.” 

“The cause of the explosion could be known after investigation,” he added.
